Just a heads up on the Spring’s project, the restoration of our 30 year old Hannibal boat. Started a couple of months ago on a tight budget, hoping that the hull would not need major reconstruction. But let’s take first things first:
End of March we managed to get rid of the old Yamaha outboard which was after 32 years of service was put to retirement. A new trailer was bought and we had the hull examined by a specialist who concluded that the transom needed major reconstruction.
Moisture readings were at 40% so we had no choice but to open the transom. So the goal was to not only extend the transom in order to facilitate the new L Shaft outboard but also dry the woods and reinforce it so that it can handle the extra power.

During the past 20 days we had plenty of setbacks. The whole hull was flooded with water and most of the wooden floor is ruined. It is being replaced as we speak.
A couple of cracks were found in the polyester and have been repaired and the hull had been reinforced in various spots where the fiberglass was thin.
The transom has doubled in thickness and has gained 15cm in height. Every wood inside the transom has been replaced making it stronger than it ever was.
By the end of this week we will be hopefully done with the bodywork. What follows is the electring wiring and the mounting of the engine. First weekend of June is supposed to be the end of a long, cold winter…
Enjoy!
