Free widescreem Wallpapers
Having just recovered my pc from a serious fault, i had to format and reinstall windows Vista. First things first, so i immediately changed the default, boring windows wallpaper to something more interesting.
Interfacelift.com is the best (to my knowledge) resource for free Desktop Wallpapers. Just pick your display resolution and download! Many interesting pictures (also some HDR photographs), easy to use, no annoying ads or spyware. A must website for everyone.
Highly recommended!
iPhone 2.2 MobileNotes Problem
Yesterday i updated my iPhone to the newest firmware version 2.2.
As i usually do, to avoid restoring from a backup, i take the sms.db, the notes.db and other files from the private\var\mobile\Library folder, keep them safe somewhere and after the firmware update (or rather restore) is performed, i put them back inside using SSH. Now this 2.2 upgrade seemed to work fine until i noticed something.
All my previous notes where there when i opened the Mobile Notes app. And whenever i added something it seemed like it was added fine. But after i closed the app and opened it again no changes whatsoever were made to the notes. At first i thought "set permissions to 777" but it wasn't that easy. At least not for me... 
Setting them to 777 obviously did not work. I tried a dozed other techniques, got a fresh copy of the MobileNotes.app to install, googled for a long while etc. but nothing could change. Thankfully i found the solution just before i start the restore process once again.
I don't know how it hit me, but the solution was as easy as changing the "Notes" folder permissions too. I didn't see anyone mentioning that even though some people have blogged about this problem before.
So if you have the problem remember: change FILE + FOLDER permissions!

5 μήνες πριν, τέτοιες μέρες ετοίμαζα τα πράγματα μου για την άλλη άκρη της Ελλάδας. Κουφόβουνο Διδυμοτείχου έγραφε το φύλο πορείας. Λίγο ο προορισμός, λίγο ο λόγος για τον οποίο ανέβαινα με έκαναν να απογοητευώ. Η "γκατζολία" ήταν το ατομικό μου γκούλαγκ.
5 μήνες μετά επέστρεψα Αθήνα με ανάμεικτα συναισθήματα. Αποδείχτηκε πως η παραμεθώριος στον Έβρο μπορεί να είναι μια ξεχωριστή εμπειρία. Σίγουρα, οι συνθήκες διαβίωσης απείχαν πολύ απο το ιδανικό. Στις βρώμικες τουαλέτες και τα μουχλιασμένα μπάνια προστέθηκε το κακομαγειρεμένο φαγητό και βεβαίως τα γνωστά παράλογα του Ελληνικού Στρατού. Αγγαρεία, κουβάλημα, καθαριότητα. Παρόλαυτα, λίγο το μέρος και η ηρεμία που κυριαρχεί, λίγο οι υπηρεσίες που λόγω επαρκούς επάνδρωσης ήταν ανθρώπινες και κυρίως οι παρέες που δημιουργήθηκαν συνέβαλαν στο να περάσει το 5μηνο πολύ γρήγορα και ευχάριστα. Ακόμη και οι έξοδοι στο Διδυμότειχο είχαν την πλάκα τους.
Τι θα θυμάμαι:
Τα κουνούπια. Ότι ακούγεται είναι πέρα για πέρα αληθινό. Απο Ιούνιο μέχρι Νοέμβρη κυκλοφορούν αγέρωχα, αλίμονο αν βρεθείς μποστά τους.
Τους μεσημεριανούς ύπνους στο Κουφόβουνο. Δίκιο έχουν όσοι μας φωνάζανε Τάγμα ΥΠνου
Τον μήνα εκπαίδευσης στην Καβύλη Ορεστιάδος. Κάθε μέρα εξοδούχοι.
Τα σαββατοκύριακα στα beach bar της Αλεξανδρούπολης. Δεν φανταζόμουν ότι θα έβρισκα τέτοια μέρη στον Νομό Έβρου. Μπάνιο, καφές, βόλλευ και ρακέτες και μετά ψητά στη λαδόκολλα γέμιζαν τα σαββατοκύριακα του Ιουλίου και του Αυγούστου

Τις βόλτες και τα ρακόμελα στην Ορεστιάδα
Το cafe-bar Roxanne στο Διδυμότειχο. Τέτοια κάβα και ποικιλία σε whisky δεν περιμέναμε να βρούμε στα σύνορα της Ελλάδας. Δυστυχώς το ανακλύψαμε πολύ αργά αλλά κάναμε φιλότιμες προσπάθειες να καλύψουμε τον χαμένο χρόνο σε ποτά 
4-5 υπαξιωματικούς και αξιωματικούς, φωτεινές εξαιρέσεις στον κανόνα του αμόρφωτου, κομπλεξικού τεμπέλη μονιμά
Τα παιδιά του 50ΤΥΠ και κυρίως τον Γιώργο, τον Κώστα, τον Χρήστο και τον Αρμάν
Τι θέλω να ξεχάσω:
Τα κουνούπια
Την πλειοψηφία των "στελεχών" του στρατοπέδου
Τις χαμένες ώρες σε ανούσιες εργασίες (βλ. μάζεμα των φύλλων του δέντρου, γόπινκγ και άλλα ευγενή αθλήματα)
Τη γραφειοκρατία σε όλα τα κλιμάκια. Για να εγκριθεί μια βίδα χρειάζονται 7 έγρραφα με 4 σφραγίδες και 2 υπογραφές το καθένα
Το ότι τελικά μέσα στους 5 μήνες που έμεινα εκεί πάνω, ζήτημα είναι να κάναμε κάτι πραγματικά ουσιαστικό. Ελπίζω να μην χρειαστεί ποτέ να εφαρμόσουμε στην πράξη αυτά στα υποτίθεται πως εκπαιδευτήκαμε
Ελπίζω και το υπόλοιπο 5μηνο που απομένει να περάσει τόσο γρήγορα όσο και το πρώτο μισό.

Green Sock Tween
Well, for some time now i have been using TweenLite and especially TweenMax as my AS3 tweening engine. Jack has made an amazing job writing these classes and a real service to the Actionscript community by sharing them like this.
Now, i searched google for the terms "green" "sock" (which is the name of his blog) and the site was the 5th-6th result. And since this is unacceptable, there you have it; a whole blog post to boost by a tiny bit greensock's pagerank!
Films & Documentaries that make you think.
I just finished watching "Redacted" by Brian De Palma. A film about America's war on Iraq. Or rather, the American Army's attempt to stabilize the coutry, after it overthrew the goverment. In particular it depicts an incident, where in March 2006 US soldiers murdered a family and raped tha daughter before killing her too. The movie is moving and at some points disturbing. But the most important message i got was not from the movie itself. It was from this:
redacted rating difference between USA and the world
Now the first thing that struck me was of course the great difference of opinion between US voters and International voters. This shows to say the least, a lot of negativity on behalf of the majority of Americans on such matters.
The second thing to notice, is of course the surprisingly low number of votes (4,000 in total)! Brian de Palma's previous movie (which is considered mediocre) has nearly 30,000 votes. But Redacted took no publicity as it seems.
Another movie i watched recently and really enjoyed was "Lions for Lambs". This one of course is more of a movie than Redacted which wanted to be a documentary-movie. Lions for Lambs too, talks about this war. It talks about what we, ordinary people think of these situations and how far we will go (or won't...) for what we believe in.
I never held Robert Redford in high esteem to be honest, so this piece amazed me. It is one of those Hollywood movies that actually make you think.
Now, straying way way off the two aforementioned films, i would like to finish this post with a documentary i also recently watched. "Zeitgeist". Even if you don't take most of what this documentary shows as truth (though it might be), i think you broaden your mind a lot by watching it. And any other independent documentary for that matter. Zeitgeist II: Addendum has also hit the internet, but it's not nearly as good as the first. Maybe not even good at all Look for Zeitgeist in the pirate bay.
